Live Review: Polysics Tours the UK PDF Print E-mail

Polysics Polysics performed their first show to their UK November tour at the London venue Barfly on 1st November.
The venue was packed with people ready and prepared to have their minds shaken and blown away by the four piece popular New Wave, Rock band from Japan.

A nice warm up start came from the Swedish support band for the night called Quit Your Day Job, teamed with synthesisers and jerky guitars there was also a wacky vocalist, furthermore a Devo inspired sound seemed to be present in their music, of course Devo are Polysics's heros! How appropriate could they be for the night?

Later, after a blast of Devo's music for the break Polysics were soon armed and prepared on stage, everyone was ready for take off!

The set list for the night covered quite a few new songs from their coming Spring 2006 UK release 'Now Is The Time!' (Japan release October 19th) including songs such as the catchy "I My Me Mine" with Kayo and her sweet girlie vocals in the chorus teamed with her chirpy tunes on the recorder.

As usual Hiro was about to show off his skills in the no hands guitar balancing on head trick with the audience cheering him on!

The band also performed the new track "Ah-Yeah!!" produced by Andy Gill of legendary band Gang Of Four; whilst maintaining that Polysics pop electronica vibes there was something to this track that made it stand out, or rather something that was a little different, perhaps it was the talking monologue at the start by Hiro, you hardly hear this much in Polysics's songs so it was quite a pleasant new feel that worked well.

"Baby BIAS" was amongst one of the new tracks performed though of course it was the well known Polysics songs that got the crowd going especially crazy, practically everyone was joining in saying "My Sharona" in the song "My Sharona", "Kaja Kaja Goo" was superb and Kayo with her metallic gold pom poms out for "Peach Pie On The Beach" was perfect!

The night finally ended with an encore performance of "Black OUT Fall OUT".

Overall it was an amazing night packed with non-stop rocking! Fantastic performance from all four band members, they were clearly all enjoying it and giving their greatest, Hiro was all over the stage, jumping up and down, here and there, it was fun and lively which in all made it a great experience for the audience, a gig that they can't forget easily and are sure to keep them in a hyper up mood for some good hours after the show or even days!

Polysics recently announced that they'll be back in the UK again next year April 2006 to tour with British band Kaiser Chief on their UK tour. Kaiser Chief played in this year's Fuji Rock Festival in Japan, vocalist Ricky Wilson is said to have praised Polysics music, I suppose the two bands have met and became friends!
