Polysics
HAYASHI guitar, voice, vocorder, programming KAYO synthesizer, vocorder, voice FUMI bass, voice, synthesizer YANO drums The four modern age, hyper real new-wave warriors from Tokyo are about to hit the UK with their tour in November! Having shaken venues across the US and Canada recently Polysics are coming back to blow the minds of the UK nation once again with their endless hyper energetic bursts that is guaranteed to rock the audience crazy! Now Is The Time! is the title to their coming album partly produced by their hero Andy Gill of Gang of Four and is promised to do nothing less than give a new definition to New Wave. Now Is The Time! will be released in the UK in Spring 2006. In the meantime I decided to catch up with Polysics for a quick interview just before they start their UK tour. Polysics began in 1997, that's about eight years. Can you tell us how the sound of Polysics changed and progressed throughout the years comparing the past to now? At the very bottom, we haven't changed a bit, but when it comes to our playing techniques, it has improved a lot. I don't know if this can be called progress or not but up until two years ago we used to make barriers between us and the audience, now we just want to make the people who come to our gigs happy! People who listen to your music often describe your songs as non serious, with no heavy embedded messages but more about being fun and happy, would you say this is true? Yes, this is true, but it isn't just about being fun and happy. Your new album 'Now Is The Time!' Will be released in Spring 2006 in the UK, this will be your second release here, how excited are you by the new album and what will it have to offer? It's cleary different from the previous Polysics sound, it has a very tight sound to it, we've made a totally new rock album that'll completely change the meaning of New Wave. It's often mentioned that Polysics's biggest musical inspiration is Devo, your stage outfits and shades, appears to be influenced by Devo too, who else inspires Polysics's sound and image? KraftWreck, XTC, Talking Heads, DAF, Ramones, King Crimson and a whole lot more. It's not like we just like the 80s' though. Do you have any favourite Japanese bands too? From the old days, YMO, P-MODEL, Plastics, Friction, Abradako and a whole lot more! More recently, I like ZAZEN BOYS, MO'SOME TONEBENDER, GUITAR WOLF and NATUMEN. Most people would agree that seeing Polysics live is a great experience, packed with full of high energy! The majority of this is coming out of you, Hayashi! Where do you get all your energy from when live on stage? I don't know myself, its just that when I get on stage I get hyper! Coming up in November will be your second UK tour of the year, I've heard that many fans are excitedly waiting for this already! Do you have any plans to continue touring overseas in the coming year? Of course! We want you all to see the power up version of Polysics! Thank you for your time with Jpop.com! We wish you the best for your UK tour and new album 'Now Is The Time!' Thank you too! We'll do our very best! Polysics new album Now Is The Time! is currently in development and will be released in the UK in Spring 2006. Experience the Polysics! Polysics will be touring the UK in November on the following dates and venues: Nov 1st London Barfly Nov 3rd Liverpool Barfly Nov 4th Oxford Zodiac Nov 5th Brighton Freebutt Nov 6th Birmingham Barfly Nov 7th Cardiff Barfly Nov 8th Glasgow Barfly Official site: www.polysics.com Interview by yuki melodies |
