The Wait is over: Playstation 3 PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 15 November 2006

A cold wind hangs in the air as crowds begin to stew. The time of the launch is fast approaching and soon the doors will open. They are lined up, well over a thousand people outside the electronics retailer Bic Camera in Shinjuku, Tokyo’s trend-setting downtown core.

Finally, its 7am, the doors open. Through all the pushing and shoving, men and women of all ages, some of them camping two whole nights for this moment have been allowed in. Their goal is one and the same… They’ve come for the PlayStation 3… And its here.

It was eagerly anticipated, and even though it faces steep challenge in the marketplace and may not perform as well its company would like, the PS3 has made its mark and so the battle for console dominance has truly begun.

Through all the problems, all the delays and all the doubts and research, Sony’s big ticket item of the year is here and for the fans, that’s all that matters. It’s a moment that most will tell their friends. “Oh yeah I finally got it. I waited in line for 14 hours to get it but yeah its great… finally” is just one example of a conversation that is more then likely taking place as you read this editorial.

Further to this, the launch titles for the PS3 are almost making waves. The most notable of launch titles being Sqaure Enix’s Final Fantasy 13. Although some may complain that Final Fantasy 12 was just released a month ago in North America for the Playstation 2, fans of the series will now have yet another to purchase…

And that brings us to the cost. There are two packages being offered. The first system goes for $499 US and features a 20 GB hard drive and will lack several features that the other version will have. The second version will cost $599 US and will feature a 60 GB hard drive and come with all the bells and whistles. But sorry, only one controller per unit. Others are sold separately.
